Many opportunities exist for individuals, families and groups to volunteer at the Mt. Calvary Family Resource Center. Volunteers come from all walks of life and include many types of religious, social and business organizations and individuals.
We need people to stock shelves, fill client food orders, help with the repair and upkeep of the building, assist clients with referral services, conduct food drives, assist with outreach programs and do administrative tasks.
Whatever your interest, there is a volunteer opportunity for you.
Check the list of volunteer opportunities listed below and email volunteer@frcmc.org to volunteer or for more information.
Here is Thomson West's "Paid Time off for Volunteering Program" Employees are given 16 hours paid time off each calendar year to actively volunteer for an accredited school or a qualified nonprofit organization whose mission statement falls within one of our focus areas:
Educating the Future Workforce
Providing Arts and Cultural experiences to the Community
Developing and Strengthening Youth, Families and Communities
Another company that offers volunteer time off is Wells Fargo. Check to see if your employer offers a volunteer time-off program! Due to space and safety concerns of children and volunteers, at this time only children in 7th grade and older may volunteer at the Mt. Calvary Family Resource Center food shelf. Children in 7th and 8th grades must be accompanied by a supervising adult. Other opportunities for volunteering with young children are available in other areas of food shelf operations and in outreach programs

Family Support Workers : The lifeblood of the Resource Center – and we need more! Training is provided by Community Action Council. FSW’s assist families and individuals with resources and services that prevent violence, ensure school success and promote self sufficiency. Please consider this position. If you are not sure if it is right for you – you can attend an introductory session or get more information from one of the current volunteers.
Bagger : Baggers are to bag all food orders that will be picked up during the shift. The Bagger will also perform food shelf maintenance tasks if all orders are packed and assist Runners when appropriate. Several shifts are available for this fun job!
Runner : Runners will bring up food orders from the basement holding area for clients who are picking up during the shift and bring the orders out to the client's vehicle. The Runner should also make coffee and setup snacks and drinks for volunteers and clients prior to client arrival. Runners will assist Baggers when appropriate.
Greeter : Greeters are responsible for the overall flow of the food shelf shift. They will greet clients at the door, move them through the food shelf system and verify clients use computers or other resources when needed, connect them to a Family Support Worker when necessary, distribute Emergency bags and assist other food shelf roles when appropriate. The Greeter is responsible, with the Family Support Worker, for opening and closing the Resource Center.
Food Collection : Many of our food donations come from local stores and we need volunteers every day of the week to help with these pickups. Volunteer once a month or every week but help is needed in this important role.
Food Shelf Maintenance : Flexible hours are available to put away donated food, check for expired food and list items running low.
Food Drives : Does your company do a food drive? How about your scout troop or your school? If not, you can help feed hungry people by doing a food drive in your neighborhood, place of business or club. Information is available on our website. Just click on the "Food Drives" link. If you need help, please contact info@frcmc.org.

After-School Staffing : Volunteers are needed for the After School Program every Tuesday and Thursday. We need people willing to help with homework, crafts, playing board games, and special events. This is an important outreach program and the kids love coming! This is a great opportunity for individuals, teens, college students and families with young children to volunteer.
Programming Event Planning : From Friday Fun Nights to Back to School celebrations and more that have not been thought of yet! This is an opportunity to be involved as a leader on one small event or a series of them or more. Do you have an idea of a way to reach our community? Our goal is to find ways to help people come to the Resource Center so they will be more aware of our services and feel comfortable coming for help.

Phone Caller Extraordinaire : We are in need of several people willing to make phone calls on an as needed basis. Sometimes we need people willing to call 10 or more members/volunteers to remind of an event (all volunteer meeting), or ask for help (i.e. bake goods) and other similar type things. If you don’t mind talking on the phone this may seem like only a little thing but it can help immensely – not everyone loves email!
Administrative Support : Can you spend a night helping us with bulk mailings, thank you letters to donors, and other similar tasks? We need point people on a project-by-project basis to help coordinate some of these types of activities. As a volunteer you can take on the project yourself or work with volunteers at the Resource Center during “down time”. Consider helping with one project – or several.
Website Design and Maintenance: The Resource Center website is a valuable tool for the Resource Center and we'd like someone to help design an effective website and update pages as needed.
