Homework help, hang out, have a snack. These are just a few of the great activities that are available at the Family Resource Center After School Program every Tuesday and Thursday from 3:30 – 5 p.m. The program is nearing its one-year anniversary and the growth in the program has been explosive. Originally designed as a K-6 program to assist children attending nearby Rahn Elementary, the program has expanded from one child to include more than 20 children in all grades and who do not all live in the neighborhood. The year-round program offers homework help for children who bring homework, tutoring in all subjects for all ages, snacks, outdoor activities, computer time, board games, crafts, science experiments and more. Tutoring and homework help volunteers have a wide variety of books, reference materials, workbooks and manipulatives to use in working with the children. The program is staffed all by volunteers and paid for by donations to the Resource Center, grants and fundraising.

Here’s what some of the kids have to say about the program: “This is so much fun!” Amber “I wish you had this program every day.” Shauna “Getting help with my homework helped me in school.” Fatu “I like coming here because there’s a lot of things to do.” Aaron “The people here are really nice.” Marcus “The people here listen and are nice and help with whatever you need.” Kevin
